It’s the year-end festivities and that means one thing: your wallet is getting thinner every single time you head out. Between the mad rush to buy gifts and catching up with all your loved ones, the costs can add up.
Thankfully, it’s entirely possible to make merry during the yuletide season without having to break the bank. We don’t mean heading to the hawker centre here (though supporting our hawkers is always awesome), but proper sit-down restaurants where you can have a meal and a glass of wine or two.
Here, we recommend five restaurants in Singapore to celebrate Christmas and keep your credit score intact.
Ginett Restaurant and Wine Bar
Ginett may be famed for its wines going from $6 per glass but that generous pricing is also extended to its food menu. Here, Executive Chef Sylvain Royer puts out an extensive selection of French classics from Burgundy snails to La Quenelle de Brochet. If you plan on heading down, here’s our tip: go during lunch or brunch hours where prices tend to be friendlier, and don’t leave without ordering the Apple Croustillant for dessert.
Saveur
French cuisine on a budget is entirely possible here in Singapore. Saveur is one such homegrown name and offers up regional bistro classics that we’ve all come to know and love. Think a deep and comforting bowl of onion soup or a crispy duck confit The 10-year-old restaurant also puts out yearly Christmas menus at less than $100 per person for a three-course meal.
Marmalade Pantry
Christmas at the Marmalade Pantry? Yes you read that right. The homegrown bistro serves up more than just sandwiches and puts out a decent ala carte menu from salads to pastas and mains like meat and fish. In fact, here’s a thought: skip the Christmas lunch or dinner and have high tea instead — it’s the perfect option at a non-meal time if you’ve got one too many social plans and struggle to fit everyone in. Its Downtown outpost is outfitted in particularly contemporary furnishings if you’re looking for a proper restaurant setting.
Tipo Pasta Bar
Forget that roast or steaks this year. Dig in to some comforting bowls of pasta and cheesy pizzas at Tipo Pasta Bar. After all, the Italians celebrate Christmas too no? The establishment is known for letting you build your own pasta so go ahead and choose from a variety of sauces like pesto and alfredo and jazz it up with your choice of toppings like duck or prawns. Don’t feel like making your choice? Fret not, the staff will be on hand to advise the house specials. The eatery is halal so if you’re looking for a place and opportunity to dine out with your Muslim friends for the occasion, this is where it’s at.
