Take your mum out for mother’s day at these high tea spots

Persian poet Rumin once said, “We are born of love. Love is our mother.”

It’s a beautiful saying that rings true for families around the world, and it is an unconditional love that should be celebrated this month as we mark Mother’s Day.

This year, that special day falls on 8 May and there’s no better way to spend it than to take mum out for afternoon tea. The ambience is relaxed, there’s plenty of daylight to take in the day and everyone will be home before sundown to prepare for the week ahead.

Here, we round some beautiful spots to take your mum out and splurge a little for the occasion,

Clifford Pier at Fullerton Bay

There is something truly breathtaking about Clifford Pier at Fullerton Bay. It could be the views of Marina Bay, the sweeping arched ceilings or the gentle tinkling of the piano but the Asian-inspired cuisine is hands down the main draw. The restaurant also has a range of high tea sets depending on what you’re after. The Oriental Flavours afternoon tea will take you on a gastronomic journey around Asia with morsels like Beef Shepherd’s Pie with Spiced Coconut Floss and Ondeh Ondeh Macaron. There is also a plant-based tea set if you have family members who are vegetarian or vegan with the likes of an Omni Luncheon sandwich and Kaffir Lime Lychee Tart.

Raffles Hotel

Raffles Hotel is the grand dame of Singapore’s luxury hotels and it occupies the imagination of many as the gold standard of service. Soak in the experience at the Grand Lobby where heritage comes alive and take delight in quintessentially British bites like scones, jams and clotted cream as you sip on its range of teas, thoughtfully curated by the hotel’s tea sommeliers.

Atlas Bar

Impress your mum and take her to a place that she would hardly ever go to: a bar. Not just any bar mind you but a gorgeously outfitted one with a slew of awards to boot. Atlas Bar in Bugis has a high tea experience that you can booze up if you want to as you can add on an option of adding martinis or champagne. Of course, if mum isn’t one to drink, there is a list of tea to choose from to enjoy with bites like lobster crostinis and banana cream pies.

Wild Seed Cafe at Alkaff Mansion

A dose of nature can do the soul some good and Wild Seed Cafe at Alkaff Mansion offers greenery in spades. It’s located on a gentle hill just off Telok Blangah so you can partake in a slow post-meal stroll if you’re stuffed. Food-wise, the afternoon tea set will present a rotating selection of delicious bites from stuffed croissants to pretty cupcakes. A selection of teas from Gryphon Tea company will be on hand for you to choose from. The space is pet-friendly to boot so you’re more than welcome to bring your furry friends.

La Fez

If you’re looking for a quality halal high tea experience, Moroccan-themed restaurant and bakery La Fez is your answer. The interiors are reminiscent of the labyrinthine medinas and riads of the North African country. The high tea set is available daily from 2pm to 5pm and comes on a regal platter. The sweet items will vary with each day but savour items include Khubtz Beef Brioche and Tashelhit Salmon Brioche. Wash this down with a pot of Moroccan Mint Tea or Rose Tea. Make a reservation beforehand as the items are made fresh daily.
